CNC Mechanical Technician

The CNC Mechanical Technician supports CNC Manufacturing by performing scheduled and unscheduled repairs and maintenance, providing technical support with batch setups, and through initial article setup programming, tool selection, and tool sourcing. 


  • Perform scheduled maintenance and unscheduled repairs on CNC manufacturing machines in such areas as: electrical, hydraulics and pneumatics, machinery rebuilds, reconditioning, and modifications.
  • Work with rough drawings, schematic layouts, technical manuals and general descriptions of what is desired.
  • Maintain CNC machines according to engineering drawings and understand dimensions as they pertain to repeatability, equipment capabilities, tooling, and scaled-up production.
  • Dialogue with external vendors, as needed, to ensure that all necessary tools are always available to keep production running.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement projects and collaborate with other departments, as requested.

Critical Knowledge:

  • GED, or equivalent education required; additional education (college, technical/trade school) preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Machine M- and G-codes and tool path development, as well as in the mechanical and electrical function of the CNC machines.
  • Trained in machine repair, either classroom setting or on-the-job environment.

Critical Skills:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Able to troubleshoot and conduct root-cause analysis

Critical Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in a similar role, similar role within a regulated manufacturing environment is preferred. Experience must include some combination of work experience in a manufacturing environment that demands high precision and high-volume repeatability at tight tolerances.
  • Professional work experience performing standard shop computations relating to dimensioning, tooling, speeds and feeds of machine, and using a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.

Key Challenges:

  • Capability and technical skills to troubleshoot, repair, setup, and return CNC machine back to specification.
  • Ability to maintain spare parts and PM schedules for all equipment.
  • Ability to evaluate existing CNC programming, and to create new programs are required, to accommodate new products and optimize existing production to achieve maximum flexibility and efficiency on the manufacturing floor
  • Must possess good verbal communication skills and work well in a team-oriented environment.
